This session formed the beginning of  a dialogue between the Kano Society members and Team Bath Judo.

We included traditional judo concepts and  historical information as well as discussion and demonstration of current training methods.

Kano Society Sensei John Cornish 7th Dan.

Our time was spent on and off the mat -

     * Watching judo video of archive material including our new Video of the life of Koizumi Also available was Dickie Bowen's interview and some classic judo footage -

* Watching and comparing some of the latest footage of Olympic Judo from Fighting Films.

* Learning the less known Katas.

* Watching some of our future Olympic hopefuls in action with training drills and nage-komi.

* Library tour which hosts the Bowen History of Judo Archive.

The day included something for everyone and we very much hope to repeat the experience in the near future and maintain links with Bath Judo during 2007

We are pleased to reproduce Mike Callan's excellent end of year report on the Judo at Bath - (2006 review)

Richard (Dickie) Bowen who was the main force behind the foundation of the Kano Society began our association with the University by donating his vast collection on the history of Judo to the University Library and we also donated the video interview which Dickie recorded shortly before his death.

The University of Bath has been working in partnership with the European Judo Union to develop the block route FdSc in Sport (Sports Performance), which is the first judo-specific foundation degree course.
